Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri
on Marcos jewelry collection

"While some officials of the Presidential Commission

on Good Government (PCGG) are

against the auction of Marcos jewelry which have been

kept in a vault at the Bangko

Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for 20 years, I suggest

that the Marcos jewelry composed of

three collections, the Hawaii, Malacanang and

Roumeliotes be loaned to the National

Museum, for safekeeping and as an added

attraction to our national, historical and

cultural treasures."

ZUBIRI TO DILG, PNP: COME UP WITH AN IMPARTIAL INVESTIGATION says HK police must participate to avoid whitewash.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri yesterday challenged DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo, PNP Chief Jesus Versoza, NCRPO Chief Leocadio Santiago and heads of other law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation on the Manila hostage incident to come up with an "honest-to-goodness investigation" as an initial step to rebuild the country's image in the international community.

"My frustration as to how the authorities mishandled the hostage incident is the same as those of millions of Filipinos here and abroad and even foreigners all over the world. There are 100 thousand OFWS in Hong Kong alone at marami sa kanila ang nakakaramdam ng galit mula sa amo nila at pati request nila for wage hike ay binalewala na. Paano natin maisasaayos ito? It will take several steps to be able to rebuild our image," Zubiri lamented at the joint Senate investigation on the hostage incident and alleged violation on the anti-torture law.

Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri today demanded that DILG secretary, police officials and heads of law enforcement agencies involved in handling the negotiations and rescue efforts in Monday's bloody hostage incident to appear before the Senate investigating committee and explain to the public their absence or delayed appearance at the Manila hostage incident.

"Where was Gen. Versoza throughout this whole incident? Where was the NCRPO Chief, Gen. Santiago? And, most especially, where was Sec. Robredo, the head of DILG, throughout this whole affair? I was monitoring this incident from lunchtime til it's end, and I only saw Sec. Robredo in the evening. Being the head of the DILG and more particularly the National Police Commission, shouldn't he have taken control of the situation and probably, earlier in the day when the situation was calm, couldn't he have promised Mendoza a review of the case himself and not delegate that task to the Vice Mayor of Manila?
